How do I prepare for an open house?
Often when you are selling your home your real estate agent will want to do an open house so that many people have the opportunity to see your home all in one day or weekend. This is a great way to get prospective buyers through your home over a short time span. But before having strangers parading through your home there are a few things you should do first.
The most important thing to do is to remove anything of value or sentiment. You will also want to make sure any jewellery, cameras, laptops, iPads and other small electronics are in a safe and secure spot. If you have any prescribed medications then you should take them with you.
Your real estate agent will most likely also want to stage your home. This means getting rid of clutter, neutralising wall colours, making sure there is warm lighting and getting rid of any oversized furniture. Basically, you will need to do everything that you can to make your home stand out amongst the rest. If you are selling a house, this will extend to the outside. You want to make sure the lawn is tidy, flowers are blooming and the door is painted a trendy colour.
